WELCOME

In dreams there it lies, past the magic mirror and will'o'wisp's light. Beyond words that have faded to legend and myth stands a world long forgotten. Altear that land is called, the otherworld. In that fabled land the children of the old gods live and breath. It is their Kingdom, the land of Fairie that the Old Ways of antiquity live, and where a fractured peace could lead to war or to a new age.

The last High King of the Fairies has died and no heir can be found. Which means a new leader must be elected, and a new Royal family assembled. Because without a true monarch to lead the country, ancient Clann Feuds and courtly politics threaten to bring down the ancient Kingdom of Fairie.

The purpose of this thread is really simple. All who need to and want to can post questions here about the world, or ask for help on they're application!

Just keep things polite and civil and generally someone will answer you when possible!

okay, lovely place by the way but
for my question. i was thinking of
taking one of the high king candidates
and i was wondering a few things. one:
how are they picked? two: as they didn't
have names, do we get to pick them? and
i think my last question would be like the
first question but can the high king
people be come any class or from the
middle and upper class?

-The High King candidates are selected within their own Court.

-They are only from the Gentry, something about pureblood.

-The High King is selected via democratic election among the Dal or Clann Senate. Basically each Clan get's 1 vote, most votes win.

-The High Queen is also a possibility

-You get to name the Plot Characters, they are a role only, where as Canon's have a name, age generally and some info listed.

-As in the case of Aithne (Possible Seleighe candidate) your character can be a protectorate aka former or vassal Clansmen. However, there aren't many of these and you would have to talk with me about it.

I hoped that helped! Any more questions?

They are pretty limited.

Some Clans don't have official recognition, so they exist as Vassals or Protectorates to the twelve. Some of these include the Four Clanns of Mannann the survivors of Cymru.

They are named with the Eile tag.

To quote the Clann Structure Supplementary info

QUOTE

The Eile kin, Fosters and Protectorates
Fosters and Adoptees can attaint a variance in status. Though they are not bloodkin, they can if they were Gentry still be given considerable status and power. Those who are adopted generally enter at their given class. Fosters are however never considered Derbfine, and always are termed Iarfine. They are in themselves new blood, but some see their entry into Clann marriages and breeding as an act of lessening the lineage.

On the other hand are those “unrecognized” or minor Clanns. They who still bear the –Eile prefix and yet never are removed of it. These are those who are of dead Clann’s or of the unrecognized lineages of the Tribe of Danu. They in themselves carry their own sections or groups within a Sept and may come to hold partial Tertiary Sept status. Though very rare this does happen.

Tertiary Flaith are considered a rung below the Secondary Flaith, and as such have lesser power within a Clann’s electoral body. Those who are separate of blood, but are Protectorates generally are cast aside as another type. Considered bottom feeders by some, or defendants by others. Those minor Clanns are usually if not recognized rarely allowed to intermarry or pasted as a sort of disease upon the greater bloodlines of the Clann in it’s whole.

And the Seleighe position isn't exactly taken. There is a subplot where the character Aithne is trying to become the candidate.

No problem, you've influenced me to actually get the Minor/Dead Clann profiles written tonight if possible.

I only have four totems so far though hehe.

Cymru totems were Sun, Moon, Wolf and Hawk. Now to go trudging through the list of Irish gods for names. And no problem, was fun answering your question.

I have one!

Regarding the bean sídhe (or banshee, or woman of the fairy), are there any immediate rules one must keep in mind if one should apply as one? (Better, can one be classified as a banshee?) And is there anyway to tie such a type of character to a canon you have?

Namely this particular one:
    Ishbel Uí Cliodhna–Mór
    Notes:
    • +30Years of Age
    • Youngest Daughter of Eallair
    • Renowned Singing Voice
I know a banshee was never specified to have a 'beautiful voice' but I thought the idea of combining what was noted for the canon and what myth exist for the banshee have a sort of allure.

If it's not possible, I'll understand. ^-^

Thank you in advance for a reply.

Straight from my Irish Teacher in Carrore, County Galway.

The banshee acted as a alert to let people know that the fairies had put aside room for the dead. They also appear to one of the five great ruling Clans of Ancient Ireland.

The Cliodhna are called Wraiths or Ghosts because their founder was the Queen of the Legendary Banshee. Her singing voice wouldn't be magical, but it would be fairly good.

From what I know unless you can apply one of the magical traits to such an idea, no one is getting Siren like abilities.

I wasn't even aware the actual clan was connected to banshees when I asked. XD That's awesome, ahahaha. *Looks at some info about her in the internet*

Also, yes, I have no plans to give Ishbel siren-like abilities. My question was more because a banshee is more known for wailing and keening to herald impending death, but I thought it cool that, when not doing this, Ishbel's voice is pleasant and like the detail about her specified: a renowned singing voice.

I take it, considering the association of the clan name with the myth of Cliodhna, I am allowed to make her a banshee? It would help me to structure her personality, and a loose history concept for her, is all.

That said, if this distinction is not necessary, I'll understand as well.

EDIT TO ADD: Is there any thing I have to keep in mind, regarding them being called Wraiths or Ghosts when I make her application?

They are called that because their aura's have a ghost like quality to them.

Just a question with the App. sheet. The first line (”Last night as I lay dreaming…") and the fifth line ("My mind bent on wondering…”), what are you asking for there?

Also, should my character app be written in past-tense, or is that just rping?
