In dreams there it lies, past the magic mirror and will'o'wisp's light. Beyond words that have faded to legend and myth stands a world long forgotten. Altear that land is called, the otherworld. In that fabled land the children of the old gods live and breath. It is their Kingdom, the land of Fairie that the Old Ways of antiquity live, and where a fractured peace could lead to war or to a new age.

The last High King of the Fairies has died and no heir can be found. Which means a new leader must be elected, and a new Royal family assembled. Because without a true monarch to lead the country, ancient Clann Feuds and courtly politics threaten to bring down the ancient Kingdom of Fairie.

They'd got back to the city with enough time, thank the gods. He didn't want to think what would have happened if they had been late. Thankfully on the run back he'd lost the tension in him, sheer exercise did it. He was glad she had the sense to make herself.. a little duller for the trip back. Not disguise herself exactly, but make it less obvious that she was her. Even better she'd done it herself, he hadn't had to suggest it. It boded well for the woman if she had that much common sense. It also made him realize that his worries of her on her little trip might be slightly unfounded. Sure she wouldn't have been able to defend herself against a mob of attackers, but for the most part that wasn't likely to happen. Disguised as a poor woman, or at least a noble down on their luck, she'd most likely be fine. That reassured him, but it didn't change his mind anyway. She still needed someone by her side, to keep her safe. Even with her magics there were always those who could possibly see through it.

Which was really proven as he heard the notes of a Cymri horn, and he growled to himself. Thankfully they'd been able to stop at one of his little hidey holes. He stashed clothing in various places around the city for just such occasions. So he was in one of his better armor sets, the one given to him by his parents in fact, and loping along beside Nightfire. He kept his senses open, warily watching the crowds. Being in the middle of a crowd and trying to guard someone was one of his worst nightmares.

Though he recognized Cormac, offering the older male a tight-lipped smile before his gaze moved on to watch, his eyes flicking rapidly. He heard the conversation, but didn't react until he was thanked. He flushed a little bit, not that it was noticeable. She definitely WAS a wild spark. "It's my job," he said simply, "but I appreciate the thanks." The rest of the conversation drew a small smile from him. He could see Cormac as the one who instigated drinking games on a winter's night.

They moved off, and eventually made it to the fortress. It allowed him to relax a little, but it was still so much more crowded than normal, and he didn't like it. His hand was constantly resting on the sword at his waist. He tensed even further when she uncovered the two items, and he recognized the spear with a start, his eyes going wide. THAT was what she had gone to get? By the gods she could have been killed! He WAS going to talk to her again, later. They reached the chambers, and he followed her in to her seat, though when she took it he stood just behind and to the left.

Looking around, he was still wary. He highly doubted anyone would make a move here, but weapons were allowed to be kept and he didn't trust anyone. Not when it came to guarding.

He recognized Niall, though when the Morrigan spoke for his clann it surprised him. He had not heard of the change in power. One vote for the sun, he thought, shifting slightly. Clann Abhean added a second, and a smile twitched at his lips. He was rooting for Aithne. From what he knew so far she would make a wonderful monarch. Impulsive yes, but she cared deeply. You only had to see how she spoke of Clann and family to know it. Though when Catan stood and put forth his vote the Laoch's eyes widened, his body radiating tension even more. He had not expected that. Had opinions truly changed so much since last he'd been home? He supposed it was possible, but he wondered if Catan's daughter agreed. Her face seemed unreadable. He would have to write home and inquire.. for some reason the fact that his clann had voted for Lir bothered him. Badb and Bebinn spoke for Aithne, and at the cheers he even smiled, some of the tension draining from him. It seemed that Aithne was going to be the next on the throne. Nemain voted too, and his smile grew wider. He would much rather Aithne on the throne than a Lir, even if she DID drive him mad.

When Caer voted.. or didn't, well he growled. To not vote... What was going on here? As far as he knew this just.. did not happen. How was this vote a farce? Credihne at least specified. He voted.. just not for either. It.. made him uneasy though. He looked around, his eyes sharp and observant. He did not like the undercurrents in this room. Still looking around, he pitched his voice very low, positive Aithne would catch his words. "Eyes out," he murmured, the hairs on the back of his neck standing on end.
