"Ye say yer me child, but yer mother claimed ye boy!" -Father telling his son that who is his parent is...
In the land of the Sidhe there are the Clanns. And within each Clann is are the various Septs. Beyond social organization the Sidhe are organized based upon blood and adoptive relation in groups that they call Ginealach, meaning Bloodline or Lineage. Each Ginealach from the highest gentry Household to the lowest tribe of Brownies is a large extended kinship group making up from anywhere from two to five action generations of Sidhe.
Life in a Sidhe Household The Sidhe are not gendered biased when it comes to leadership and in general the head of house is generally the most dominant or the oldest residing elder of the Household. The head of house can be of either gender and depending upon Clann, though in general there is no discrimination
Lower generations either respect or usually in some cases venerate the older. Though rebellion is quite often, Older Sidhe in many cases are viewed as more experienced and weathered. Again this can differ between Clann. Traditions evolve over time and in some cases the naming and structure of a Household can different depending upon Class and Clann. Generally these traditions are unique to the given Ginealach.
Ginealach Creation A Sidhe Bloodline forms in one of two ways. First a powerful or likewise renowned Sidhe of any class breaks away from their existing Household and wishes to start their own. In this respect said Sidhe then sets up their own Household upon their own land and outside of the familial compound or hall. At this point they create a new name and markings to identify themselves from their parent Household. A Ginealach can also be formed by a couple seeking tos tart a new line starting with their children.
The other way is that over time a given branch of an existing Lineage may break off and retain it's descent to a given member o the parent Lineage. In both respects the newly formed Household find's it's own property far away enough to act as an independent entity.
Naming a Ginealach is quite simple, Sidhe Household names are generally totemic or simplistic in their name. They describe the point, the ideal or just something about the members of the House Hold (EX: Ginealach Fiachdubh or House Blackbird).
Who is who's child? When it comes to recognizing one's parentage, it really boils down to what the child wants. Sidhe reach their legal majority at the age of twenty and at that time can decide to be a part of either their mother's or father's Ginealach. This also goes for Children of multi Clann parents.
When it comes to deciding at birth, a child generally goes to the parent who is part of the more dominant Ginealach or Clann. Or in some cases the parentage will be shared. This only occurs if the parents are separate since not all Sidhe live together when having children.
Marriage/Posadh The act of marriage or as the Sidhe call it Posadh is not simple. There are formal Posadh, informal and the list goes on and on. Generally the basis of Posadh is twofold. First is a pair who do love or have an interest with each other and thus form a domestic parternship of sorts. In some cases there are many partners and the relationship is polyamorous.
Formal Posadh are generally conducted between the people in question or the head of their Ginealach. Generally a contract is signed and whatever is required from the couple or group is then acted upon. Be it a marriage or producing a child, or working together to unify to groups.
